Troubleshooting

Restarting your computer

It might sound simple but many problems can be solved by simply turning your computer off and then back on. Laptops, computers, and mobile devices should be restarted frequently to perform well and remain healthy.

  • Restarting a Mac
    There a few ways to restart your Mac/Macbook. The most common way is to close all open applications, select the Apple menu and click Restart.
  • Restarting a PC with Windows
    To restart your computer, in Windows 10, open the start menu in the lower left-hand side of your screen. Click Power. Select the Restart option from the the submenu.
Clearing your cache

Videos won't play
  1. Try a New Web Browser – Sometimes lesser-known (or out-of-date) web browsers can cause issues when playing course videos. We always recommend using an updated version of Chrome or Firefox. If needed, you can go to whatsmybrowser.com to find out more information on the browser you’re currently using.
  2. Test Internet Speed – Sometimes a slow Internet connection can cause videos to not play properly. You can go to www.speedtest.net to see if your internet connection the minimum technical requirements of 5 Mbps.
  3. If on Mobile, Switch to a Computer – Download speeds and operating system updates may sometimes cause videos to not perform the same way as on desktop computers.

Internet Browsers – We recommend the latest versions of either Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome or Apple Safari. For the authentication purpose the OU Virtual Campus uses cookies. Please set your browser to accept cookies from our site.

Bandwidth – Minimum: 5 Mbps download/1 Mbps upload; Recommended:
10Mbps download/ 2 Mbps upload. OU classes uses multimedia such as animation, interactive demonstrations and videos. It is strongly recommended to have high speed internet access such as DSL, cable, or satellite connectivity.

Software – Current version of Adobe® Reader (free download). We also recommend getting a free Gmail account so you can use some of their additional services such as Docs, Sheets and Slides.
